Flunarizine (trade name Sibelium) a calcium channel blocker, appears to be the most effective drug in treating Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood. Flunarizine reduces the severity and duration, but rarely the frequency.

Interaction
Phenytoin, carbamazepine, valproic acid: Decrease efficacy of flunarizine.

Adverse Effect & Precaution
Epigastric distress, nausea, weigh gain, headache, drowsiness, insomnia and depression. Extra pyramidal effects, skin rash.
Precations
Not to drive and operate machinery.
Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
Breast Feeding: Contraindicated.
Man: May be given in reduced dose.
